Two of the main goals of the Orange County Reading Association are the improvement of reading and the promotion of literacy in Orange County. OCRA realizes that these goals cannot be met without the support of dedicated individuals. This year we are proud to honor Kathi Bartle Angus with our annual Outstanding Contribution to Reading Award.
Kathi received her B.S. and Multiple Subject California Teaching Credential from San Diego State University. She completed her M.S. in Education with a specialization in Reading at California State University, Fullerton. She has been an educator at the elementary, graduate and undergraduate levels for 40 years.
Her undergraduate teaching interests include critical thinking and academic reading and writing. She has presented on these topics frequently at the College Reading and Learning Association and the California Reading Association and her publications in these areas can be found in the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy and the Journal of the College Reading and Learning Association.
Some of her leadership positions have been leading the 9 to 900 Fullerton College-CSUF collaborative reading program, serving three terms as president of the Reading Educators Guild, holding various positions in the College Reading and Learning Association and coordinating the CSUF undergraduate reading program and cohorts in San Juan Capistrano, Newport- Mesa and Fullerton-Buena Park. CRLA presented Kathi the Karen G. Smith Special Recognition Award for her leadership role in their organization. Currently, Kathi is the Associate Director of the Dr. Hazel Miller Croy Reading Center on the CSUF campus.
